Stinging Sensation
A most welcome ’80s flashback, the Police and Elvis Costello & the Imposters appear at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre
If you thought there was no connection between edgy, early-’80s punk and mellow, early-’90s pop-jazz, you don’t know Sting. The former Police chief has managed to meld these erstwhile opposing musical worlds. Starting his walk of fame as leader of the punk-pop Police, Sting proceeded to conquer the smooth jazz/pop arena as a solo artist. Now he’s back with his fellow Police men, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland, in a hugely successful reunion tour. On this tour, the Police are joined by fellow genre-jumper Elvis Costello, who also has punkish roots but wrote songs with the decidedly non-punk Burt Bacharach. A most welcome ’80s flashback, the Police and Elvis Costello & the Imposters appear at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre (formerly Coors Amphitheatre) May 26 at 7:30. 619-671-3500; ticketmaster.com.
