Green Demo
THE DEL SUR WELCOME CENTER has a smorgäsbord of green features. If you’re a home-tour junkie—a perennial lookie-loo when it comes to gathering ideas for your home or condo—you’ve probably toured model homes in new developments. Usually, the models are fashioned by leading designers, who are on top of trends. Developers are eager to showcase floor plans, state-of-the-art appliances, upscale fixtures and clever space options.
But if you’re after the latest in energy and environmentally efficient innovations, check out the 3,000-square-foot Ranch House at Del Sur, a planned community in northeast San Diego. It’s not exactly a model home; the Ranch House is a demonstration of builder innovations, particularly solar energy. It was designed using guidelines put forth by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) to ensure it met certification standards by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The Ranch House will eventually be turned over to the community for use as a clubhouse. It’s open Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Info: 858-481-4200; delsurliving.com.
